NeighborSpace Seeks Input on Proposed Design for Park Planned for Gwynndale Ave and Flannery Lane

NeighborSpace of Baltimore County, Inc., a nonprofit land trust, purchased the 0.13-acre parcel of land on the northeast corner of Flannery Lane and Gwynndale Ave. in 2014 in the interest of creating a small pocket park. Since then, neighbors and local artists, Trisha Kyner & David Friedheim, have placed sculptures on the site, as shown below:

Following a community meeting in fall 2019, NeighborSpace hired a landscape architect to develop a design. Now, NeighborSpace seeks the community’s input on the project via a 5-minute, on-line survey available at: https://bit.ly/gwynndalesurvey. The purpose of this quick questionnaire, which is due by August 1, is to get feedback from the community on (1) the proposed design; (2) the community's willingness to help take care of the property; and (3) a name for the park. The questionnaire has 13 questions and will take about 5 minutes to complete. If the survey responses indicate that there is community support for constructing and helping to maintain the park, NeighborSpace will fundraise for the park's construction and involve the community in the park's ongoing programming and maintenance.

The park is planned for the entire community, with a central open space for play and events, 5’ wide oval pathway, benches, and three locations for colorful metal sculptures, to be supplied by artists Kyner and Friedheim. The park will also have gardens for native perennial plants to create wildlife habitat, gardens for pollinators to support our food web, and 2 rain gardens to capture and filter the stormwater runoff. New plantings will include four native trees and many species of perennials and grasses, 90% native to central Maryland.

NeighborSpace asks that members of the surrounding community complete the survey questionnaire by August 1.  A summary of the results will be shared with Mr. Carroll Watkins, President of the Gwynn Oak Community Association, and posted online at: www.neighborspacebaltimorecounty.org/projects/flannery-lane/.
