Baltimore County Funds Grayscape at Powhatan

Baltimore County Funds Grayscape at Powhatan

We are excited to announce that Baltimore County has awarded NeighborSpace a grant to repair the “gray” design elements of Powhatan Park.

If you’ve been following us for a while, you’ll know that NeighborSpace is currently working on reconstructing this park in Lochearn after the original construction was washed out in 2018. The culprit of that flooding, a crucial drainage pipe that was on County plans but had never been installed, was fixed in June of 2020. The following summer, NeighborSpace was awarded a major grant from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Chesapeake & Coastal Service to design and construct the green infrastructure features

Missing until now was funding for the remaining “gray” design elements. Neighbors and others stepped up this past December as part of #GivingTuesday to help NeighborSpace and the Powhatan Farms Improvement Association raise $5,000 for the trail. Baltimore Gas and Electric provided another $2,500 through its Green Grants Program. Now, Baltimore County has awarded NeighborSpace a $22,950 grant. This will fund repair of the stone entrance at the Robin Hill end of the park, reinstallation of the site trail, and installation of boulders at each trail entrance. NeighborSpace would like to thank County Executive Olszewski for supporting its mission of enhancing the livability of Baltimore County communities inside the URDL.

NeighborSpace is looking forward to seeing the park completed in the next few months, so that the community can start gathering there once again. The Powhatan Farms Improvement Association has already shared several ideas for fun events at the park. Stay tuned!
