On Saturday, June 4th, NeighborSpace hosted a planting event at Ridgely Manor Park in Towson. Native species were selected to fill in barren spaces in the meadows. Thanks to the knowledge and help of Victor Bennett of Edible Earth Design, the park now has a new variety of native plants. Native plants are especially important as they are well acclimated to the landscape and they help in attracting pollinators, like bees and butterflies, to the site.
For this event, NeighborSpace was fortunate enough to have a group of eager high school students as volunteers. They were ready and willing to make their mark; under Victor’s guidance, they worked hard to plant diverse native species in Ridgely Manor Park. With over 100 acres of land across 21 sites, volunteers are at the core of how NeighborSpace is able to create and maintain parks and green spaces, and this pivotal planting could not have been possible without them!
Another key success factor is funding to support projects like this one. NeighborSpace is grateful to the Forever Maryland Foundation for the grant funds it awarded the Ridgely Manor Community Association, which enabled the purchase of plants for this park.
