We The People – Baltimore County: A Conversion on Making the Most of Baltimore County’s Master Planning

As you probably know, Baltimore County is in the middle of its master-planning process, where it considers plans for future growth and development.  But there are two things that make this special:

  1. This moment comes only once every 10 years, and it will be gone before we know it, and
  2. Master planning may well be the most important tool we have to make progress that matters.  A master plan connects all of our “systems” (housing, transportation, environment and so on) in a way that decides our quality of life.

So, what’s the ask?  We respectfully request that you join us for a conversation on the master plan, to be held via Zoom on Wednesday, March 23, at 7:00 p.m.

We will open with a review of (i) how we arrived at this equity crossroads, (ii) how the master plan has been used in the past, and (iii) how we can use the master plan to help us bring real and lasting change.  And then we will open the floor for a discussion, where we want to hear your ideas and, together, plan for next steps.

But make no mistake — this isn’t just about adding more ideas for consideration for the master plan.  It’s also about changing the way the master plan is used.  Right now, the master plan is simply an advisory document that doesn’t have the needed force of law in zoning decisions.  This has to change, and we need your help to do it.

So come on out, join the conversation and help us make the most of this incredible inflection point, before the master plan becomes final this Spring/Summer.

And, in the meantime, if you’d like to find out more about us and We The People, please visit WeThePeopleBaltCo.com.
